Pumpkin-Shaped Cookies
These cookies are soft, chewy, and full of pumpkin flavor. Pumpkin is a great ingredient for dogs because it’s rich in fiber, vitamin A, and antioxidants. It can also help with digestion and skin health. To make these cookies, you will need:
- 1 cup of pure pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
- 1/4 cup of peanut butter
- 2 eggs
- 3 cups of whole wheat flour
- A cookie cutter in the shape of a pumpkin
Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and eggs until well combined. Gradually stir in the flour until a dough forms. You may need to add more or less flour depending on the consistency of your dough. It should be firm but not sticky.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use the cookie cutter to cut out as many pumpkin shapes as you can. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden and slightly crisp on the edges. Let them cool completely on a wire rack before serving or storing in an airtight container.
Peanut Butter Bones
These bones are crunchy, nutty, and irresistible for your dog. Peanut butter is a good source of protein, healthy fats, and vitamin E for your pup, as long as it doesn’t contain any xylitol or other artificial sweeteners that can be toxic for dogs. To make these bones, you will need:
- 1/4 cup of peanut butter
- 1/4 cup of water
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 2 cups of oat flour
- A cookie cutter in the shape of a bone
Preheat your oven to 325°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a small bowl, microwave the peanut butter for about 15 seconds or until soft. Stir in the water and honey until smooth. In a large bowl, whisk together the baking powder and oat flour. Add the peanut butter mixture and mix well until a dough forms.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick. Use the cookie cutter to cut out as many bone shapes as you can. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until hard and golden. Let them cool completely on a wire rack before serving or storing in an airtight container.
Apple Cider Donuts
These donuts are moist, fluffy, and full of apple flavor. Apples are a good snack for dogs because they are low in calories and high in fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants. They can also help clean their teeth and freshen their breath. To make these donuts, you will need:
- 1/4 cup of unsweetened apple sauce
- 1/4 cup of apple cider
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 cups of whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- A donut pan or a mini muffin pan
Preheat your oven to 375°F and spray your pan with cooking spray. In a small bowl, whisk together the apple sauce, apple cider, coconut oil, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix well until a batter forms.
Spoon the batter into the prepared pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let them cool slightly in the pan before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
You can optionally drizzle some melted peanut butter over the donuts for extra flavor and decoration.
These are some of the Halloween treats that I like to make for my dog. He always goes crazy for them and I feel good knowing that I’m giving him something healthy and homemade. I hope you and your dog enjoy them too. Happy Halloween!
